If your following me on instagram then your probably already know that I had the amazing experience of attending NYFW last week. I absolutely love going to the shows and its such a great experience because it really gets my mind thinking about the future and visualizing upcoming wardrobe selections and trends. It also helps me better inform my readers and styling clients so that I can get them thinking ahead too.
Another reason why attending the shows is so important to me is because it allows you to step inside the designers creative direction for the collection. Fashion shows are about the clothes yes, but also about the mood and how the designer envisions his or her collection. All the elements of the collection, models, styling, music, props, lighting, and location all help portray the vision. Really just like a mood board come to life. Clothes are so much about a feel for me that I love projecting myself or my clients in the clothes as I see them come down the runway.
There were a lot of trends that I picked up on some new some old. A LOT of black! Some said too much black. However, when designers were asked why so much black the answer was “our customers like black, why not make a black collection.” Other trends worth mentioning is fringe, velvet, the color teal and waist cinching with tied belts, not so much buckled. Below are some of my favorite looks and trends on the season.
Creative Layering

BCBG, Thom Browne. Proenza Schouler |
One of my favorites looks on the runway and really more street to runway is Creative Layering. Don’t be afraid to put on your pants and shirt and then put a dress over that with a jacket and some boots. I really think Proenza Schouler did some interesting things with this. I also loved Thom Browne and BCBG. BCBG always is runway to street friendly which I love.
Suiting

Dion Lee, Ralph Lauren, Derek Lam |
By far on of my favorite things to see on a women is a good suit. Make it a 3 piece and I’m done. A lot of suiting on the runways however, these were some looks I thought stood out. Dion Lee (first) kept it more sexy while Ralph Lauren stayed traditional, no surprise. I love this Derek Lam look for the color and cut.
White Out
![]() |
Ralph Lauren, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Donna Karan |
If you were ever still thinking or holding on to that white was a faux pas before Easter it’s time to let it go. Most people are wearing white year round and looks great. Why your shouldn’t you be able to throw your favorite white dress over a pair of jeans during the winter? This Ralph Lauren Dress (first) is in my eyes the perfect wedding dress. So gorgeous! Phillip Lim kept his whites kept his white in constant motion with silk fabrics and that Donna Karan Coat, I have a crush on it.
Rainbow Furs
![]() |
Monique Lhullier, Cushnie Et Ochs, Escada |
So much fur on the runways of all different colors. Designers did not hold back used all colors of the rainbow to dye it. It was also used as a trim on what felt like everything. The Monique Lhullier (first) is wearable with everything and the Escada (red) the cut and design is fresh. The middle Cushnie Et Ochs is unbelievable and a complete showstopper and I love the color..
Lady Like Lengths (Midi Length)
![]() |
Karen Walker, Dion Lee, Sally Lapointe |
We saw a lot of this length last year on the runway but I love it since its just a little longer and a little warmer. The Dion Lee middle did a handkerchief bottom and the color gorgeous. Karen Walker was super street cool and I swoon over this Sally LaPointe look on the end.
Tobacco Tones and Tans

Ralph Lauren, Vivienne Tam, Altuzzara |
This color is a classic I dont think you can ever go wrong with this color. Being a blonde I have a strong affection to it. The Ralph Lauren (first) is a three piece with the vest. could possibly be one of my favorite looks on the runways. Vivienne Tam (middle) made this color look its freshest and the fit of Altuzzara (last) beautiful.
RED Shoes
![]() |
Alice and Olivia, Thakoon, Tory Burch |
Im a huge fan of red shoes so I loved seeing this. Thakoon (middle) really was a standout for me on this. Tory Burch and Alice and Olivia were also faves in slightly different shades of red.
Statement Tights and Thigh Highs
![]() |
Rachael Zoe, Thom Browne, Proenza Schouler |
I’m in love with thigh highs they really speak to my inner school girl who grew up on Clueless and and Cruel intentions. So it’s no shock to me that Rachael Zoe put her girls in them because even though I dont know here, something tells me she has similar feeling about thigh highs. Statement tights will be around this winter too and Thom Browne and Proenza Schouler came to the table with some cool designs.
Brocade
![]() |
Badgley Micshka, Donna Karan, Alice and Olivia |
I was not expecting to see this at all! Brocade seems very Medieval to me which I’m fan of. Badgley Micshka did this beautifully in red. Donna Karan kept things vampy. I give props to how youthful Alice and Olivia was able to make it.
Head to Toe Red and Bordeaux
![]() |
Prabal Gurung, See by Chloe, Michael Kors |
Paint the town red! Prabal Gurung kept their red bright and lucid with silk fabrics. Thank you we appreciate here in Miami! This See by Chloe number in the middle is just the right about laided back and Michael Kors went all out on this red coat. I love wearing red. I think its so beautiful on all women.
Plaid
![]() |
Tommy Hilfiger, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Alexander Wang |
What would winter be without a plaid. Tommy Hilfiger knows plaid and did it right with head to toe youthful looks. I really liked how Phillip Lim used it as an accent, something new! This Alexander Wang coat is a wardrobe staple that I must have.
60’s and 70’s Inspire
![]() |
Jcrew, Zimmermann, BCBG |
FAVEorite! I am such a huge fan and enthusiast for the styles and prints of the 60’s and 70’s. I can’t get ever get enough. I must say Zimmermann had me hello with her whole collection. So wearable and gorgeous. Jenna Lyons for Jcrew put her touch on the style, perfect the gal who doesn’t want to totally indulge in the style but wants a taste. I loved this Bcbg Coat!
