The view of Montreux from above |
Lake Geneva |
On of my favorite photo’s.. It doesn’t even look real and enhanced at that. But, no! |
One of the million country side shots that you can see from every direction. |
Headed up on the Golden Rail to the mountain top. |
Walking around in the clouds |
When we said we were going to go to Switzerland I had imagined how beautiful it would be, but I can say it far exceeded my imagination. Switzerland is by far the most visually exquisite place I have ever been to and the pictures hardly do it justice. Every view is more picturesque then the next, that it’s hard to decide where to look in fear of missing something.
We went up in a train called the Golden Pass, this is a train in Montreux with many different routes up into the mountains. For us we took the rail that would take us the highest we could go. The train ride is stunning starting from top to bottom and I highly recommend taking a day or two just to ride the different routes. Once at the top, there is a restaurant and some trails you can get out and walk around. The trails are something out of a book. You can basically walk your way right into the clouds and the views will take your breath away. There are wildflowers and emerald green fields everywhere. It’s magical and tops anything you saw in the Sound Of Music ;). We went to the restaurant, I can not remember the name however its the only restaurant up there so you won’t miss it. We had cheese fondue, oh my good so good, some wine and a salad. Perfect!
Down in Montreux, which by the way is considered the Swiss Rivera and is some what like you can imagine. First class hotels and shopping, however with a mix of old world traditional Swiss. It’s kind of what makes Montreux a special place, its a collide of two worlds. If you like you can be up in the mountains away from it all and never see sight of a fancy hotel or restaurant. The the next day you can be down by Lake Geneva laying out on a boat and shopping for Jimmy Choo’s. I found it to be the best of both worlds for my taste.
Below are the details of the hotel and restaurants we went too. If you have any questions or comments about anything I wrote, like always please feel free to ask! Xx Nik
Hotel: Fairmont Monttreux Palace
Restaurants:
Le Museum: Recommended to us by the hotel. The restaurant is in a cave and you get to cook your own steak on a small grill brought to your table. A little kitschy I know, but the food was really good and fun. Fun Fact: Rolling Stones played there back in the 70’s
Au Les Evouettes: Cafe Le Maguet: I loved this restaurant! It’s quaint, family owned and first class food without the fuss. We sat at quite little table in the back, and drank a couple bottles of wine. The wife of the chef waits on every table and is kinder then could be. We were the last ones there and towards the end of the night you could hear her the kitchen staff laughing, eating and having a bottle of wine together in the other room. Made the experience even better.
